The project known as the Mount Lawley Anzacs came to be about the time of the 100th anniversary of the Anzac landing at Gallipoli.
The small but dedicated group of people who manage the society’s History and Archiving subcommittee took on the mammoth task of finding out how many soldiers enlisted for World War I, at the time they or their next-of-kin were living in what was, or is now known as, Mount Lawley in the years 1914-1918.
The search found nearly 500 men and women who enlisted from the area. Over 380 of those were found in the National Archives of Australia, and the additional men and women were found via other sources. This project provided the starting point for the stories of the men and women who served in the Army during WWI. We present here a brief outline of their military lives; their families and where they lived as well as their lives after the war.
We encourage you to do your own search for family and friends from that era, who fit the criteria of having resided in Mt Lawley. We would welcome any more information on these wonderful men and women from our past, so please contact us at mountlawleysociety@gmail.com
